Anita Among Defies Kadaga in NEC Showdown

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) NEC meeting at State House Entebbe turned stormy as Speaker of Parliament Anita Among Kadaga’s rivalry took center stage. Tensions rose after First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga accused the party of sidelining loyal veterans in favor of newcomers like Among.

In response, Among fiercely defended her candidacy for NRM First National Vice Chairperson (Female). “Being new is not a crime,” she declared, stressing that she had brought more than ten opposition MPs into the ruling party. Her remarks, greeted with cheers, positioned her as a symbol of renewal against Kadaga’s seniority claims.

Among accused Kadaga of double standards, recalling how she defied the party in 2021 when Jacob Oulanyah was endorsed as Speaker. “Those who had been here for long walked out and stood as independents,” she shot back, earning loud applause from her supporters.

She framed her campaign as loyalty to President Museveni, pledging she would never move a motion against him. “You have tested me as Speaker; now trust me as your CEC member. Being new is not a crime,” she repeated, branding herself as both fresh energy and a reliable asset for the party.

As emotions ran high, President Museveni intervened, ruling that the matter would be settled by delegates at the upcoming NRM National Conference. The showdown between Anita Among Kadaga camps now sets up a decisive vote that could redefine the party’s internal balance ahead of the 2026 elections.
