Police Probe Murder of Woman in Buhweju District

Police in Buhweju District have launched investigations into the Buhweju murder case following the death of 35-year-old Kyogabirwe Olivia, a resident of Enkombe Trading Centre in Kyahenda Sub-county.

Preliminary reports indicate that 24-year-old Turinawe Kenneth from Ruzinga may have strangled her. Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed the incident.

“On 2nd September 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., the husband to the deceased, Kabatungye Nicholas, returned home from gold mining and found his wife lying on the floor inside their house,” Tayebwa said.

According to Tayebwa, unresolved family tensions likely fueled the tragedy. “Reports show there were long-standing witchcraft-related disputes within the family, which may have escalated into this unfortunate incident,” he explained.

Police officers processed the crime scene and later moved the body to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. Tayebwa emphasized that medical findings will determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, security teams arrested one suspect to assist with investigations. They continue to collect evidence and interview community members. As a result, police believe they are closing in on critical leads.

Tayebwa urged residents to avoid violence and crime. “We call upon members of the public to distance themselves from acts of lawlessness, since such actions remain prosecutable,” he stressed.

Therefore, the Buhweju murder case not only highlights family-related conflicts but also underscores the need for peaceful conflict resolution in the community.
