The stage is set for one of Uganda’s most anticipated sports events: the Pepsi University Football League. Starting tomorrow at the newly opened Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, this year’s competition is bound to be thrilling. To celebrate the opening of this modern venue, entrance is free for all students, encouraging an enthusiastic turnout from the university community.
The first match of the day kicks off at 3:00 PM and will feature Kampala University, a two-time champion, taking on the reigning champions, Uganda Martyrs University (UMU). This high-profile clash is expected to deliver a fierce battle as both teams are known for their top-tier performances in previous seasons. UMU will face Nkozi University in a highly anticipated game that is sure to excite fans.
At 5:00 PM, Kyambogo University, the 2018 champions, will go head-to-head with ISBAT University in another riveting contest. Both teams are eager to assert their dominance, making this match one to watch.
For the 2025 season, the league introduces a new format in which teams will only meet once in the group stages. Whether home or away, this added element of unpredictability will make every game crucial. The top teams from each group will automatically progress to the quarterfinals, alongside the three best runners-up.
This year’s edition also brings fresh competition, with debutants Mountain of the Moon University, Censor University, Soroti University, and Lira University entering the league, adding a new layer of excitement.
