Deputy Inspector General of Government Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria has reaffirmed her commitment to uphold integrity and accountability in Uganda’s public institutions, promising to intensify her efforts as she embarks on her second term in office. In a post shared on X, Dr. Okiria expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for reappointing her, calling it a renewed mandate to fight corruption and protect national resources.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to H.E. @KagutaMuseveni for the continued trust and confidence in my service,” she wrote. “This is not just a new term — it’s a renewed commitment to strengthen systems, safeguard public resources, and ensure accountability across our nation.”
A Vision for Integrity and Accountability
Dr. Okiria emphasized that her focus will remain on building a Uganda where integrity becomes a shared culture, not an exception. “I remain committed to creating a country where young people and every citizen can trust institutions that work,” she added.
Her statement comes at a time when Uganda ranks 142nd on Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, a sign that graft continues to challenge governance and public confidence.
Museveni Commends New Leadership Team
President Museveni congratulated Dr. Okiria and other newly confirmed appointees, praising their youth, integrity, and dedication. “I congratulate the appointees upon ascending to these high offices,” he said. “I’m glad they are all young people with clean records who do not seem to be corrupt.”
Among the newly confirmed officials are Justice Jane Frances Abodo, appointed as Principal Judge; Lino Anguzu, the new Director of Public Prosecutions; and Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, named the new Inspector General of Government.
Renewed Mandate for Institutional Reform
As Uganda continues its push for transparency, Dr. Okiria’s tenure represents a vital opportunity to restore public confidence in government systems. Her leadership at the IGG’s office is expected to reinforce anti-graft mechanisms and promote ethical governance in both public and private sectors.
