The violent encounter occurred at Kanyankyende cell in Nyabitete Parish, Bugangari Sub County, in the early hours of Sunday.

Murders Surge in Rukungiri Due to Socioeconomic Pressures
According to police data, eight murder cases have been registered in Rukungiri since July 1, 2025. Kabale follows with four and Rubanda with two during the same period. Mr. Posias Agaba, the district community development officer, blames poverty, land conflicts, and alcohol abuse for the rising cases.
“Unemployment and poverty push youth to violent acts. Some rely on relatives for sustenance and clash when expectations aren’t met,” Agaba said. He noted that radio sensitisation is ongoing, but lack of funds hampers in-person community engagement at parish levels.
