Arua Security Forces Recover Illegal Firearms in Targeted Operations
Security forces intensified operations after illegal firearms recovered Arua became a major concern in the region. Police and UPDF teams acted quickly because gun-related incidents continued to rise. They focused on identifying individuals suspected of planning robberies and transporting weapons through border routes. Officers responded to intelligence alerts that pointed to possible attacks on traders and transport vehicles. As a result, teams coordinated closely with district commanders to cover high-risk locations. Their combined actions led to the recovery of two rifles and the arrest of two suspects, giving communities renewed confidence in local security efforts.
Intelligence Triggers First Arrest in Arua Operation
Police received timely intelligence about a planned robbery at Odramacaku Trading Centre, and officers responded immediately. A team moved to the scene and arrested Atabua Patrick, a 46-year-old bodaboda rider from Maracha Cell in Ayivu East Division. His arrest took place near the Uganda–DR Congo border, a known route for smuggling activities. Officers found an AK-47 rifle, number 052956-2956, and 50 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Investigators searched Atabua’s home in Yapi Ward and opened a case file under Arua CPS CRB 832/2025. Police also impounded a TVS Star motorcycle, registration UGC 172T, which he allegedly used to move the firearm. Community members provided information that supported the operation, and their cooperation played a key role in preventing the planned robbery.

Arua Officers Intercept Second Suspect at Nsambya Shell
In a separate operation, officers arrested another suspect, Asiimwe Bension, for unlawful possession of a firearm. They intercepted him at Nsambya Shell petrol station in Arua City Central Division on November 2, 2025, at around 7:45 pm. According to investigators, Asiimwe was preparing to board a vehicle heading to Kampala. Officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, number A83110111, along with two magazines. These items were registered under Arua CPS SD ref 43/2/11/2025, and the suspect was taken into custody for further questioning.
Public Cooperation Enhances Arua Security Efforts
Police spokesperson for the West Nile Region, Ms Josephine Angucia, praised officers for acting quickly and thanked residents for sharing timely information. She urged individuals still holding illegal guns to surrender them to security teams. She also encouraged local leaders to promote awareness about reporting suspicious activity. Because of community involvement, officers can act faster and stop crimes before they occur.
Detectives Advance Investigations Into Recovered Firearms
Detectives continue to examine the recovered rifles and record statements from both suspects. They aim to determine whether the weapons were used in previous robberies reported in Arua City and nearby districts. Ballistic tests will help investigators trace the movement of the firearms and identify possible links to earlier attacks. Officers also want to know whether the two suspects worked alone or belonged to a wider network.
Security Agencies Sustain Pressure on Gun Crime Networks
Security forces plan additional operations in high-risk areas, especially near border communities where illegal weapons often enter the country. Arua’s location near the DR Congo border makes it a key target for traffickers, and joint operations remain essential. As investigations progress, officers expect more leads that may expose groups involved in transporting firearms. Their strategy combines patrols, arrests, and public sensitization to reduce gun-related threats.
Community Vigilance Remains Key to Safer Arua Neighborhoods
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious movements, the presence of unauthorized weapons, or any unusual activity. Consistent cooperation helps create safer neighborhoods and reduces the number of illegal firearms circulating in the region. With illegal firearms recovered Arua operations gaining momentum, authorities believe continued community involvement will make it harder for criminal groups to operate.
