Rotary Club Brings Lifeline to Bulago Island Through Major Intervention

The Rotary Club Bulago intervention brought a powerful wave of hope to Bulago Island as club members delivered essential services, healthcare, and long-term development commitments to one of the region’s most underserved communities. The island, home to nearly 300 residents, has endured longstanding hardships caused by limited access to clean water, inadequate classrooms, and the complete absence of public toilets. Because of these challenges, basic dignity and economic progress have remained out of reach for many households.
During the outreach, residents expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support led by Rotary Club president Kin Kariisa. Community members welcomed the visiting team with optimism, describing the day as a historic moment that finally restored hope to a community that had felt invisible for decades.

Club Leaders Identify Urgent Needs During Community Walk

Upon arrival, the Rotary Club team walked through villages, visited homes, and listened to the concerns of families. Local leader Bukenya, the LC1 chairman, emphasized the severity of the situation. He noted that the community had survived for generations without clean water, a health facility, or proper sanitation. Rotary Commits Shs100m to Improve Sanitation and Education

Moved by the realities on the ground, the Rotary Club pledged to fund and construct four public toilets and two classroom blocks. These structures will greatly improve sanitation and create safer learning spaces for children.
To turn this pledge into action, the Rotary Club contributed Shs100 million, marking one of the largest philanthropic efforts ever directed toward Bulago Island. Club representative Nzeyi described the contribution as an investment in the island’s future, emphasizing Rotary’s belief in sustainable community development.

Medical Camp Brings Critical Healthcare to Residents

One of the outreach’s most impactful components was a medical camp that attracted hundreds of residents seeking free treatment. Many islanders had never accessed comprehensive medical services before the camp.
Healthcare teams screened, diagnosed, and treated conditions such as malaria, typhoid, HIV, and other persistent illnesses. For many families, the camp offered their first opportunity to receive quality care without financial strain.
