March 17, 2020

Three members of Hajji Abdul Kiyimba’s hired gangs were yesterday arrested for beating up supporters of Bukoto South MP Hajji Muyanja Mbabaali. This was yesterday during NRM supporters registration in Bukoto South constituency in Lwengo district.

Hajji Abdul Kiyimba is accused of organizing gangs to disrupt supporters of incumbent MP Hon. Muyanja Mbabaali who he is set to stand against in 2021 General elections.

The gang members ‘sponsored’ by Kiyimba kidnapped and beat with an intention to kill Mukasa Sowedi, Hajji Mbabaali’s Chief mobiliser.

Sowedi was severely beaten and his car vandalized intentionally. Mohammed Nsubuga, Police PRO Masaka region said the three will be produced in court and charged accordingly.

This has prompted NRM electoral Commission to postpone its members registration till Tuesday.
Hon. Mbabaali has described the situation as sad and accused Kiyimba of wanting to register DP members and non-Bukoto South members as NRM supporters with an intention of defeating him in NRM Primaries. Mbabaali also accused Kiyimba of hiring flying squad guys to ‘kill’ Sowedi.
Hajj Kiyimba, the mayor of Nsangi wants to unseat Hon. Muyanja Mbabaali in the forthcoming general elections next year.
