A man from the Netherlands, believed to have fathered over 550 children worldwide through sperm donations, has been ordered by a court in The Hague to stop.

Jonathan Jacob Meijer, aged 41, was banned from donating to fertility clinics in the Netherlands in 2017 after fathering over 100 children but continued donating sperm online and abroad.

A foundation protecting donor children’s rights and the mother of one of the children allegedly fathered from his sperm took the man to court. Dutch clinical guidelines recommend that a donor should not father more than 25 children in 12 families.

The man could be fined more than €100,000 if he attempts to donate again
