Ezekiel Odero, a well-known Kenyan televangelist, has acknowledged that 15 individuals have passed away while seeking spiritual assistance at his New Life Prayer Centre and Church, which has been operational for over a year.
Odero’s lawyers, Cliff Ombeta, Danstan Omari, and Shadrack Wamboi, have stated that the 15 people were critically ill when they sought help from the church. According to Omari, the church has a policy that requires seriously ill visitors to be accompanied by their relatives, and if they pass away, their companions must report the deaths to the nearest police station.
Odero is currently being investigated for a variety of offenses, including murder, aiding suicide, abduction, radicalisation, genocide, crimes against humanity, child cruelty, fraud, money laundering, and accessory to crimes.
The court has ordered that he be detained until May 2, and his lawyers have stated that he has no connection to the recent deaths in Shakahola, Kilifi County, which have been linked to cult leader Paul Mackenzie.
