Ugandan Blogger Assassinated by Professional Killer: Police Investigate Possible Insider Information

May 8, 2023

On Saturday night, Ugandan blogger Ibrahim Tusubira, also known as Isma Olaxes or JaJja Iculi, was assassinated near his suburban home in Kampala by a professional killer. The police CCTV teams at Kampala Central Police Station, Kira Road, and Kira Division have analyzed the footage and ruled out the possibility that the killer followed the victim’s movements. Tusubira was being driven by his personal friend and driver, Mathias Waswa, who survived the attack and is now being protected as a key witness.

The CCTV footage shows that Tusubira’s Toyota Hiace UBK 213 D was moving without any suspicious vehicle or motorcycle trailing it until it branched off the road leading to his area of residence where police cameras could no longer see it. The killer patiently waited for Tusubira and opened fire on him while he was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The killer had arrived at the murder scene almost two hours earlier and was seen by locals who did not pay much attention to him. Unlike in previous gun murders, the killer was not masked, according to eyewitnesses.

The police have not been able to obtain a description of the killer’s appearance since the CCTVs do not cover the murder spot. However, they have requested footage from private homes in the same area that have CCTV cameras to help them in their investigation.

The police suspect that there might have been someone briefing the killer on the victim’s location, which is why he did not shoot the driver.

The murder of Tusubira has been condemned by many Ugandans, including Parliament Speaker Anita Among and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who have called for a swift investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
