President Museveni has made changes to the leadership of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) by transferring and appointing six senior army officers in command and administrative positions.
The Defence spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye, confirmed the reshuffle in a statement on Saturday. Among the changes made, Maj Gen Don Williams Nabasa, who previously served as the commandant of Military police, has been appointed as the commander of the 3rd Infantry Division in Moroto.
Brig Gen James Kinalwa has been appointed Chief of Personnel and Administration, while Brig Gen Eugene Ssenkumba Ssebugwawo has been named the head of the National Emergency Coordination Centre at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), replacing Brig Gen Balikudembe.
Other changes include Brig Gen William Beinomugisha, who was the former commandant of the 5th Infantry Division and has now been appointed as Commandant Military Police, and Brig Keith Katungi, who has been appointed as the new commandant of the 5th Infantry Division.
Some of the officers who were replaced have been nominated to attend a strategic course at the National Defence College course in Jinja. Maj Gen Nabasa will now oversee all UPDF operations in the mineral-rich and restive sub-region located in northeastern Uganda.
