A tragic incident occurred in Kabaale Zone, Busega Ward, Kampala District, resulting in the shooting death of Lutaaaya Geoffrey, a 20-year-old casual worker and resident of the area. The incident is currently under investigation by the police in Nateete.
According to a report provided by 2nd Lt. Akwasa Godfrey, a UPDF officer attached to the Northern bypass in Kampala District, the alleged incident took place at around 10 pm on the specified date. Pte. Boyi Moses, an identified UPDF officer on duty at Double ‘Q’ Company in Busega zone, reportedly intercepted the deceased and two others who were trespassing on the company premises with the intent to steal. It is alleged that during the encounter, the officer shot Lutaaaya, resulting in his death, while one of the other individuals sustained injuries and managed to escape from the scene.
Upon receiving the report, the police promptly responded to the incident, registering a case file under Busega SD ref: 23/17/06/2023. Statements were recorded from witnesses, including the reporter, and the scene of the crime was thoroughly examined by SP Sekalema Hussein, ASP Ojiambo Geoffrey, and other CID and police personnel. The body of the deceased was transported to Mulago City Mortuary for further examination.
During the investigation, a discharged rifle cartridge was recovered at the scene. The police are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the full details of the events that transpired.
