Lawyer Alleged in Rugby Club Shooting Released

February 2, 2024

Police have released lawyer Sam Ahamya, alleged to have shot an unarmed private security guard at a rugby club in Wakiso District.

The case took a new twist as relatives of the deceased recorded additional statements, defending the suspect. Ahamya was granted a police bond after the Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters called for the case file.

The incident occurred at Kings Park Rugby Club, where Ahamya, watching the Uganda Cup finals, is said to have mistakenly discharged his pistol, fatally injuring the guard.

The suspect had handed over the pistol at the entrance, thinking it was empty. He attempted safety precautions, unaware the magazine was inserted.

Contradicting accounts have emerged about the incident, with a witness stating a scuffle ensued when the guard blocked Ahamya from entering with the pistol.

The suspect declined to surrender the gun, leading to the fatal shooting. The police have submitted the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for a decision on potential charges.
