On Friday evening, tragedy struck in Ngogwe Sub County as a speeding car carrying excess passengers lost control and knocked down two pedestrians. The ill-fated car was reportedly carrying mourners from Kalambya-Kiringo Village to attend the burial of an accident victim in Kakunyu Village, Kiyindi Town Council.
According to Isaac Walugembe, an eyewitness, the vehicle was moving at a high speed and the driver lost control upon reaching the roundabout. The car then hit two pedestrians who died on the spot. The driver fled the scene, and the police are currently hunting for them.
Ms Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Regional police spokesperson, confirmed the accident and noted that the two bodies were taken to Kawolo mortuary. The wounded passengers were rushed to Kawolo Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the dangers of speeding and overcrowding in vehicles.
