Chris Baryomunsi urges a reshuffle and restructure of the OPM

April 20, 2023

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the minister for ICT and National Guidance, has called for a reorganization of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). OPM has been involved in multiple corruption scandals, including an ongoing investigation into the alleged theft of 14,500 pre-painted iron sheets that were meant for disadvantaged individuals in the Karamoja subregion.

During a press conference in Kampala, Baryomunsi suggested that certain offices within the OPM, such as those responsible for implementation, should be transferred to other sectors to improve service delivery. He believes that the OPM is too large for one person, current Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, to oversee effectively.

Baryomunsi also criticized the police for arresting ministers involved in the Karamoja iron sheets scandal during hours when they cannot be brought to court.
