First Son Muhoozi Lands in Rwanda ahead of birthday celebrations

April 23, 2023

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son of Uganda and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, arrived in Kigali on Sunday to celebrate his upcoming 49th birthday.

He was accompanied by Justice and Constitution Affairs Minister Norbert Mao and Minister of Security Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, among others, and was received by the Commander of the Rwandan Republican Guard Maj Gen Willy Rwagasana and the Rwanda Defence Forces Spokesman Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga.

President Paul Kagame will host Gen. Kainerugaba and his delegation for a dinner on Monday to celebrate his birthday. However, the occasion is also expected to feature high-level discussions aimed at improving the relationship between Uganda and Rwanda.

Last year, Gen. Kainerugaba visited Rwanda three times, leading to the reopening of the Gatuna border after three years of closure, and trade between the two countries has reportedly reached an all-time high of $20m per month.
