Kenyan authorities are investigating a cult whose followers reportedly starved themselves to death.

Police sources have confirmed that 21 bodies have been exhumed in connection with the case, with warnings that the death toll could rise further.

The cult’s leader, Makenzie Nthenge, who heads the Good News International Church, was initially arrested after two children starved to death while in the custody of their parents.

Nthenge was later re-arrested after four followers were discovered dead in the forest, and is due to appear in court on May 2. Police have also arrested six of Nthenge’s associates in connection with the case.
