In an unfortunate turn of events at a hair salon in Kisasi, a Kampala suburb, the Minister of State for Labour, Rtd. Col Charles Engola, was shot and killed by his bodyguard this morning.

The bodyguard reportedly turned rowdy and fired bullets in the air before shooting himself. The motive and identity of the killer soldier are yet to be established, but Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident via a brief tweet and stated that a detailed police statement would be released later.
According to eyewitnesses, the UPDF guard accused the minister of mistreatment and meagre pay, claiming that he “cannot be broke yet he works for a whole minister.” The crime scene photos shared widely on social media were graphic and showed Minister Engola’s motionless body lying in a pool of blood at his home.

Engola, aged 64, was also a retired colonel in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) and previously served as a defence state minister in the cabinet before being transferred to the labour ministry.
