A football coach was fatally shot by a soldier at the Paimol Sub County playground. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Omol Justin, served as the coach for the Aguta United Football Club, beloved by many in the local community.
The distressing event occurred at approximately 6:00 pm when Omol was conducting a routine training session with his team. An intoxicated soldier, later identified as Private Mukanza Michelle from the Kokil army detach under Labwordwong barracks, arrived at the scene and insisted on joining the game. Showing respect, Omol politely requested the soldier to take a rest and return at a later time.
Unfortunately, the soldier’s response was marked by anger and frustration. In a fit of rage, he stormed off to the nearby barracks and swiftly returned armed with a gun. Tragically, without warning, the soldier opened fire on Omol, shooting him in both legs.
Immediate action was taken to ensure Omol’s safety, and he was promptly transported to Dr. Ambrossoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo. Despite the medical team’s efforts to save his life, Omol succumbed to his injuries at 8:00 pm, leaving the community in shock and mourning the loss of a talented coach and promising young individual.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, expressed his deep dismay over the soldier’s reprehensible actions. Mudong emphasized the tragic reality that an officer, whose duty is to safeguard citizens, had become the perpetrator of violence against them. The soldier, Private Mukanza Michelle, has been apprehended and is currently held in custody at the 5th Division Army Barracks in Acol Pii.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice within the community. Residents and local authorities have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The soldier’s motive and any potential factors contributing to the tragic escalation of events will be closely examined.
Meanwhile, Omol’s body has been transferred to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination, an essential step in the legal process to determine the exact cause of death.
The loss of Omol Justin has left a significant void in the Agago District’s football community. He was admired for his dedication, passion, and positive influence on aspiring young players. As the community mourns the loss of a promising talent, they unite in seeking justice for Omol and hoping that such senseless acts of violence will never be repeated.
