The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has denied media reports claiming a strained relationship between the institution and the United States Embassy in Kampala regarding funding for the Uganda Demographic Health Survey (UDHS). UBOS clarified that there is no such animosity with the US government concerning the UDHS.
In an official statement, UBOS clarified that the mentioned amount of 7 billion Ugandan Shillings was allocated for technical support, primarily for ICF Macro employees and printing services. The government of Uganda contributed more than 90% of the required finances for the program, and UNICEF and UNFPA maintained their financial support for the UDHS.
UBOS asserted that it has developed sufficient technical expertise over the years to carry out the UDHS comprehensively, from implementation to dissemination. Although the terminated technical support could be seen as a setback, UBOS assured that it would not compromise the results of the UDHS.
Additionally, UBOS refuted allegations of using unacceptable protocols during the survey and emphasized that the UDHS adheres to internationally recognized standards for data collection.
This statement from UBOS provides clarification, refuting claims of strained relations or potential disruptions to the UDHS.
