West Bank Protests in Solidarity with Gaza Leave Nine Palestinians Dead

October 13, 2023

According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least nine Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire during rallies in the West Bank on Friday as people gathered in solidarity with war-torn Gaza. The demonstrations took place nearly a week after a massive Hamas attack on southern Israel sparked an all-out war. The death toll in Israel has risen to over 1,300, with over 1,799 people killed in Gaza.

Several West Bank cities, including Ramallah, Nablus, Tulkarem, and Hebron, have seen protests and clashes. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, medics treated 239 people in the West Bank, including cases of gunshot wounds and tear gas inhalation.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. In the months leading up to the Gaza war, the West Bank saw an increase in violence, with deadly military raids, attacks by Israeli settlers, and Palestinian militant activity. The situation has heightened regional tensions and violence.
