“Sonic the Hedgehog 4” is racing toward its theatrical debut on March 19, 2027.
This marks the fourth chapter in the beloved Sonic series, produced by Paramount. While the date is currently exclusive to the film, it’s expected that more releases will be scheduled for the same day in the coming years.
The announcement of the fourth film came well before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 made its big-screen debut. This move proved to be a smart one, as Sonic 3, which premiered in December, has already become the highest-grossing film in the franchise. With $218 million domestically and $422 million globally, it has surpassed its predecessors.
The success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 builds on the franchise’s growth, following the success of the first two installments. The original Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) was a surprise hit, raking in $148 million domestically and $319 million globally. It set a record at the time as the highest-grossing video game adaptation in North America. The 2022 sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, outperformed the first, grossing $190 million domestically and $405 million globally.
In January, the Sonic franchise achieved a major milestone by surpassing $1 billion in global box office earnings.
