Tragedy in Rukungiri: Teen Killed in Bar Fight Over Phone Theft Accusation
A fatal altercation at a bar in Kihogo Trading Centre, Rukungiri District, has left an 18-year-old man dead after a dispute over a stolen phone escalated into violence on Easter Sunday night.
The victim, Denis Mucunguzi, a resident of Nyarwanya Cell, was reportedly accused of phone theft by a man identified only as Victor, a visitor from Rugarama, Ntungamo District, during a night out at Vegas Bar.
Details of the Incident
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate, the confrontation began when Victor accused Mucunguzi of stealing a phone belonging to his cousin, Gloria Ainembabazi. After tensions flared, the bar owner ejected both men.
Witnesses report that Mucunguzi attempted to flee but was followed into a corridor by Victor. Moments later, Victor returned hastily and told Gloria to leave, though she refused, claiming she still needed her phone.
Victor later left the premises on a motorcycle with another woman named Catherine. Suspicious patrons later found Mucunguzi’s body lying in a pool of blood in the corridor near the bar.
