Uganda’s Sand Cranes Drawn in Group A for Inaugural CECAFA Beach Soccer Tournament

Uganda’s national beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes, are gearing up for their debut in the first-ever CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship, scheduled from July 16–20, 2025, at Pirates Beach in Mombasa, Kenya.

According to CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo, the group stage draws place Uganda in Group A alongside Tanzania and Seychelles. Meanwhile, Group B features the host nation Kenya, Malawi, Burundi, and Zanzibar.

Uganda’s Fixtures

  • July 17, 2025 – Uganda vs Tanzania at 4:30 PM
  • July 18, 2025 – Seychelles vs Uganda at 1:30 PM

Tanzania will open the tournament against Seychelles on July 16, giving Uganda a day of preparation before entering the competition on day two.

A New Era for East African Beach Soccer

This marks a significant milestone for beach soccer in the East and Central Africa region, as CECAFA steps into organizing continental-level beach competitions. The inclusion of coastal nations and inland teams reflects growing interest and investment in alternative formats of football.

The Sand Cranes, who have steadily grown in regional beach soccer circles, will look to capitalize on their experience and rising talent pool to make a statement at this year’s championship.
