August 4, 2025 – As Uganda prepares to host the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the Uganda Police Traffic Directorate has issued comprehensive traffic and parking guidelines to ensure smooth operations during the tournament. The guidelines are intended to manage the movement of fans, officials, and teams attending the matches at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

The opening match of Uganda’s CHAN 2024 campaign will take place this Monday night against Algeria. To ensure a seamless experience for all, traffic diversions will be activated during live match hours, starting at 12:00 PM on match days, especially around peak times.

Key Traffic Diverting Routes

The police directive outlines several diversions:

  • Trucks will be redirected at Kalelwe Interchange to the Gayaza–Kalagi–Mukono route.
  • Vehicles approaching from Naalya Interchange will be diverted through Kyaliwajjala–Ssonde–Seeta.
  • Vehicles from Bweyogerere will be rerouted to Jokas Hotel–Kinawataka road.
  • A cutoff point will be placed at Hared Petrol Station on Kinawataka road, limiting access to Kireka Trading Centre.
  • The road section from Kireka–Nasanga junction to Jokas Hotel will be pedestrian-only.

Parking Arrangements

For parking, the Southern Playground Wing of the stadium will be dedicated to VIP-accredited vehicles. The general public can park at Bweyogerere Police Station Playground. Officials and dignitaries are urged to display their parking stickers for easy identification.

Public Cooperation Requested

The Traffic Police have called on road users to follow the guidelines, obey officers’ instructions, and be patient. “Your cooperation is essential to the success and safety of this prestigious continental event,” a statement read.

As Uganda embarks on its journey in CHAN 2024, all eyes will be on the Cranes as they hope to finally break their group-stage curse in the competition. They have never made it past the group stages in any previous CHAN editions. The match with Algeria is a crucial start, and all stakeholders are expected to cooperate to ensure a smooth event.
