Parliament of Uganda is set to close for a fortnight from June 28, 2021

Last week, the director of communication and public affairs at parliament, Chris Obore said that more than 3000 tested Covid-19 in order to attend different parliamentary meetings and 0ver 100 tested positive.

He added that, not among the MPs but a larger category including security officers, member of staff, and protocol officers among others.

The deputy clerk of parliament, Henry Waiswa on the 22nd June addressed the members of parliament about the closure of the parliamentary building for a period of 14 days.

“The parliament of Uganda like the rest of the country has been affected by the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic with a 17 percent positivity rate. As a mitigating measure in the prevention of covid-19 infection, the administration of the parliament in consultation with the office of the speaker is closing the parliamentary premises and postponing all parliamentary meetings to a later date in order to disinfect the building and the premises” quoted from the communication to the MPs.

The closure of the Parliament will be effective on Monday, 28th June 2021 to Sunday, 11th July 2021 says Mr. Waiswa Obore.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, Uganda has registered 73,409 positive cases with 722 confirmed on the 22nd June 2021. On the same day 34 deaths from the deadly virus where registered.
