A meeting organized to mobilize and recruit diaspora Ugandans was unsuccessful due to rejections and demonstrations by NUP supporters.
The Senior Presidential Advisor, who is the son of the current President, is trying to mobilize the diaspora community, which is known for supporting the opposition figure Bobi Wine.
The MK movement is also targeting this opposition group in an effort to build support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2026 presidential bid.
However, only a few people attended the launch of the first MK movement Diaspora Chapter in London, and some people avoided the meeting out of fear of being associated with the first son, whose human rights record is in question.
The event was attended by Balam Barugahare, the movement chairperson for Western Uganda, who thanked the attendees and urged them to spread the word about the movement.
Despite being a serving military officer, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has not faced consequences for his involvement in politics and controversial tweets that could harm Uganda’s diplomatic relationships.
The food prepared for the attendees was left for the hotel service providers to sell, as there was too much for the few attendees.
