Professor John Ntambirweki, a well-known educationalist, lawyer, and Vice Chancellor of Uganda Pentecostal University, has passed away at the age of 68. Ntambirweki died on Wednesday at Le Memorial Hospital in Kampala due to multiple organ failure.
He had worked at several institutions within and outside East Africa, including the University of Nairobi, Makerere University, and Pentecostal University in Fort Portal, Kabarole district. In 2001, he founded Uganda Pentecostal University as the Grotius School of Law and Professional Studies, where he served as the vice chancellor until his death.
The Grotius School of Law was later licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in 2005 and renamed Uganda Pentecostal University. Ntambirweki was a global legal scholar and provided legal advice to government agencies in various African countries and international organizations.
He also served as the chairman of the board of trustees for Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE). A funeral service will be held at All Saints Church Nakasero on Thursday afternoon, followed by a vigil at his residence in Buziga. He will be buried on Saturday at his native home in Ibanda, Western Uganda.
