Ugandan Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, has criticized the ongoing social media campaign called #KampalaPotholeExhibition.
The campaign is aimed at exposing the poor condition of roads in Kampala City, with citizens sharing photos of the dilapidated road network on social media.
While acknowledging the importance of using social media to raise issues affecting society, Dr Baryomunsi cautioned against the manner in which the exhibition is being conducted, arguing that citizens should engage their local leaders instead of resorting to social media exposure.
He also warned against the misuse of social media and urged Ugandans to use technology responsibly. On the other hand, citizens are not relenting on the campaign until the government responds to their concerns.
Executive Director for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Ms Dorothy Kisaka, attributed the current poor road network to inadequate funding and delayed release of funds.
