Iron Sheets Scandal: Grade one Magistrate Esther Asiimwe grants Minister Lugolobi UGx 10m bail

April 20, 2023

MP for Ntenjeru North and State Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Amos Lugolobi, has been granted cash bail of Ugx10m after spending a week in jail. Lugolobi was one of the beneficiaries of the Karamoja iron sheets distribution and allegedly used them to roof a shed for animals on his farm.

It’s reported that he received 600 iron sheets, which were part of relief material procured by the government through the Office of the Prime Minister for vulnerable populations in different regions. Later, Lugolobi unroofed the shed, claiming the iron sheets were evil and that he didn’t need them.

The Anti-Corruption Court grade one magistrate, Esther Asiimwe, declined to hear the bail application of Agnes Nandutu, the Women Member of Parliament for Bududa district, who was also implicated in the scandal, and committed her to the high court. Lugolobi’s release followed Nandutu’s remand.
