The IGG accused the accountants of approving cash payments amounting to Shillings 2.2 billion to various staff within the Office of the Prime Minister, including Kitutu. These funds were allegedly misused for personal benefit after Atuhirwe failed to manage and account for them properly.
During the court proceedings, the accused persons responded to the withdrawal of charges by expressing gratitude. Sseremba appeared emotional, possibly due to relief or frustration from the false accusations.
Kitutu’s lawyer, Jude Byamukama, requested a three-week adjournment, citing her COVID-19 diagnosis and isolation since March 12th, 2024.
The case has been adjourned to April 30th, 2024, for Kitutu’s prosecution, while her co-accused have been discharged.
In response to the withdrawal, Kitutu’s lawyer criticized the IGG, alleging the misuse of the law to target individuals for personal reasons.
Last year, the Anti-corruption court authorized the IGG to pursue corruption charges against Minister Kitutu, accusing her of causing a financial loss of over $1.5 billion to the government.
These charges were brought against Kitutu while she was already facing accusations related to the mismanagement of iron sheets intended for the Karamoja region.
