The State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu, expressed her dissatisfaction with the way her case was handled after being committed to the High Court for trial by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo, Kampala.
Speaking to journalists, Ms. Nandutu protested the decision to send her case to the High Court, stating that the Anti-Corruption Court was mandated to handle the case. She was arrested the previous day in connection with the Karamoja iron sheets scandal, which has caused public outcry and put President Museveni’s government in a difficult position.
On Wednesday, Ms. Nandutu was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court and charged with dealing with suspect property.
She denied the charges, but the state prosecutor, David Bisamuyu, informed the court that police inquiries into her case were complete and that he had instructions from the DPP to have her sent to High Court for trial.
Although Ms. Nandutu’s bail application was declined, she pleaded not guilty and was remanded to Luzira Prison until May 3, 2023, when the case will be mentioned again. She is the third minister to be charged in connection with the scandal.
