Police Officer Dismissed and Faces Charges as His Negligence Leads to Murder with Stolen Gun

May 15, 2023

A police officer, Constable Steven Mulombo, has been dismissed from the force for sleeping on the job and leaving his gun unattended, which was later used in the murder of an Indian money lender.

The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, stated that Mulombo’s actions constituted gross indiscipline and negligence. Mulombo will face charges related to neglect of duty in court.

President Museveni has raised concerns about the incident and called for answers regarding the officer’s access to the gun, the storage of firearms in the police, and the security measures at the site where the crime occurred.

He also questioned the officer’s mental state and whether it was previously recognized by the police leadership. The answers to these questions may help identify and address security gaps.
