In a shocking incident over the weekend, the residence of Traffic Police Spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima was raided by unknown assailants believed to be chasing after stolen funds. The incident took place at Kasato Estate in Ssimbwa Zone, Kabowa parish, Rubaga division.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, armed with machetes and knives, broke into the residence on Friday night. They assaulted ASP Nampiima and her husband, aiming to locate the reported UGX 5 billion that had recently been stolen by a group of police officers involved in manipulating the EPS ticket system.
Tragically, the security guard at the residence, 74-year-old Matia Kintu, was struck with a hammer and killed on the spot. Hearing the commotion, ASP Nampiima rushed out of the house, only to be targeted by the assailants along with her husband. The attackers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and valuables.
Sources indicate that the assailants had received information suggesting that part of the looted EPS funds was hidden inside ASP Nampiima’s house.
Fortunately, ASP Nampiima and her husband are now out of danger and receiving treatment at a hospital. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire addressed the incident, noting that the attackers used threatening language to coerce the victims into surrendering their valuables under the threat of severe harm. He further appealed to landlords to consider installing CCTV cameras at their properties to help capture such regrettable scenarios on record.
Law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
