Tragic Accident Claims Lives of In-Laws Returning from Late Minister’s Burial

May 15, 2023

In a devastating turn of events, two in-laws of the late Minister Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo lost their lives in a tragic accident while returning from the burial ceremony. The incident occurred at Ayago in Murchison Falls Park, Nwoya District.

Dinah Tiperu Afayoa and a young boy known as Deyia, residents of Ayibiri Cell in Oluko Ward, Ayivu East Division, Arua City, were among the occupants of a tipper lorry that was involved in the accident. They tragically succumbed to their injuries.

The in-laws and other mourners had traveled from Arua to attend the burial of the late Minister Engola, who was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Awangi village, Iceme Sub-county, Oyam District, just days earlier. The community was still grappling with the shocking loss of the minister, who was killed by his bodyguard on May 2.

Geoffrey Feta, the Member of Parliament for Ayivu East Division, expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating that two critically injured individuals were referred to Gulu, while one survivor was already en route, receiving essential medical attention.

The challenging road conditions and considerable distance to Arua Regional Referral Hospital presented obstacles to transferring the survivors there. Consequently, five survivors were transported to Lacor Hospital for further treatment.

As the community mourns the double tragedy, the bodies of Dinah Tiperu Afayoa and the young boy have been taken to Anaka Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
