Threads, a text-based app by Meta that competes with X (formerly Twitter), is launching a new web version of its app. The announcement was made by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stating that the web version is currently being tested internally.
Previously, Threads users were limited in their capabilities on the web and had to rely on their smartphones for full app features. The introduction of the web version aims to provide a more comprehensive experience for users across different platforms.
Threads had a successful launch, garnering over 100 million users in its initial week. However, similar to many new apps, it faced user engagement challenges in the subsequent weeks. According to data from SimilarWeb, based on Android users, the app’s daily active user count decreased significantly after its initial peak. For instance, on its highest traffic day, Threads had 49 million daily active users worldwide on Android devices, which dropped to 23.6 million the following week.
The decline in user engagement presents a challenge for Threads as it competes with established platforms like X. To address this, Meta has promised updates, including improved search capabilities and additional features requested by users. The company aims to enhance user experience and retain its user base in a competitive landscape.
Threads’ efforts to evolve and provide a web version demonstrate its commitment to expanding its offerings and improving engagement for its users.
