In a remarkable display of unity and self-reliance, the residents of Buryansungwe, Kinyaruguru, and Bwentikye villages in Bwera Parish, Kicheche Sub-county, Kitagwenda District, have come together to construct a crucial access road. This initiative, embodying the spirit of Burungi Bwansi (community self-help), aims to significantly improve connectivity and access to essential services such as schools, health centers, and markets.
For years, the community, particularly women and children, faced significant difficulties due to inadequate road infrastructure. They often had to navigate through bushy paths to access basic services. “We have faced numerous challenges trying to access basic services. Without a proper road, even using a bicycle or motorcycle was nearly impossible,” shared one resident, highlighting the daily struggles endured by the villagers.
Impact of the New Road
Ronald Kato, a Field Officer in the Poverty Alleviation Department, noted the transformative impact of the new road, which will connect the three villages to Kigoto Parish. “This is a significant development. It will not only improve mobility but also open up avenues for economic and social growth,” he remarked. The project’s success was further bolstered by the generosity of community members like Bishop Aquirinas Kibira and Raphael Venansi Ashaba, who donated land for the road’s construction. Their selflessness has been pivotal in the project’s realization and has earned widespread commendation.
Enhancing Safety and Accessibility
The new road is a relief for parents and guardians as it promises safer and more comfortable journeys for schoolchildren. “Our children have struggled for so long, but now they will walk to school safely and comfortably,” Kato added. Innocent Bakashaba, the Kicheche Sub-county Speaker, who also participated in the roadworks, emphasized the transformative nature of the project. “For years, this community lacked a dependable access route. This project is a game-changer, finally linking residents to essential services and making daily life easier,” he stated.
The collective effort of the Kitagwenda community stands as a testament to the power of unity and determination in driving local development. Through their collaboration, the villagers have not only improved their daily lives but have also set a remarkable example of community-driven development.
