UPDF Opens First-Ever Armored Vehicle Showroom in Uganda

In a landmark move for Uganda’s defense sector, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has unveiled the country’s first armored vehicle showroom in Abayita Ababiri along Entebbe Road. This initiative results from a strategic joint venture between the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) and the United Arab Emirates-based Streit Group.

The showroom was officially launched by Hon. Oleru Abason, Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, who hailed the initiative as a step forward in fostering innovation and boosting industrial partnerships that support national security and economic growth.

“This showroom symbolizes our commitment to strengthening Uganda’s defense capacity while also offering a platform for knowledge exchange and technological collaboration,” Hon. Oleru stated.

Streit Group Chairman, Mr. Guerman Goutorov, emphasized the importance of national protection amid development, urging citizens to explore the facility and better understand the capabilities on display. “As Uganda progresses, it is essential to protect both its people and infrastructure,” he noted.

NEC Managing Director Lt. Gen. James Mugira expressed gratitude for the partnership and its outcomes. The collaboration dates back to 2019 when NEC and Streit Group signed an agreement that led to the establishment of Uganda’s armored vehicle manufacturing facility in Nakasongola, officially launched by President Museveni in 2022.

The newly opened showroom allows Ugandans to directly engage with military-grade equipment, promoting transparency and public awareness of the country’s growing defense innovations.
