Airtel Uganda Launches Smartphone Financing Program in Partnership with MOGO and Transsion
In a move to boost digital inclusion, Airtel Uganda has teamed up with MOGO Uganda and Transsion Holdings to unveil a groundbreaking smartphone financing initiative. The collaboration aims to make smartphones more accessible and affordable for millions of Ugandans who remain excluded from the digital economy due to the high cost of smart devices.
The program allows customers to purchase quality smartphones from popular brands such as Tecno, Infinix, and Itel with flexible financing options. With just a national ID and a small upfront payment, individuals can acquire a smartphone at any MOGO outlet or select Airtel service centers.
To sweeten the deal, buyers will receive 3GB of free Airtel data every month for three months, ensuring immediate connectivity and value.
Airtel Uganda Managing Director Som Soumendra described the initiative as a vital step in democratizing access to digital services. “A smartphone is more than a gadget — it’s a tool for opportunity. We are ensuring that more Ugandans can benefit from our reliable network and cutting-edge digital solutions,” he stated.
This launch follows Airtel’s broader digital safety efforts, including new nationwide network sites and Uganda’s first AI-powered spam alert system, designed to protect users from fraud and cyber threats.
Modestas Sudnius, CEO of Eleving Group, MOGO’s parent company, emphasized the economic potential of Uganda’s young population. “We’ve already invested €30 million and plan to double our presence. Our smartphone financing solution is a leap forward in empowering Ugandans with access to information, education, and business tools,” he noted.
The program is expected to benefit over 360,000 Ugandans annually, transforming lives from classrooms to farms and mobile-driven enterprises.
