KAMPALA| The National Unity Platform (NUP) continues to attract young and dynamic leaders from across Uganda, solidifying its position as a central force in the country’s political landscape. In a significant development, seven prominent young leaders have left the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to join the NUP. These leaders include Ssempija William, Nalule Kasibante, Charles Lwanga Gitta, Juliet Nabagereka, Ssenteza Frank, Nalumu Moreen, and Sempeera James.
Speaking about his decision, Charles Lwanga Gitta shared his thoughts: “FDC has been a strong party, and we love it. We have been part of the People Power movement, which welcomes people from different political backgrounds. However, when Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi made the bold move to start a political party, it was a clear invitation showing us that he is serious about change. That’s the reason I am crossing over. I want to support him, support change for Uganda, and be part of the transformation. My promise to my new home, the National Unity Platform, is hard work. We will not allow corruption to continue, we will fight against the deaths of women during childbirth, and we will address the issue of unemployment. I urge people, especially the youth, to join us.”
The shift of these influential leaders from the FDC to the NUP is expected to weaken other political parties, including the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) led by President Yoweri Museveni. The NRM, which has been in power for over three decades, faces increasing challenges as more young leaders seek change and align themselves with the NUP’s vision for a new Uganda. This shift signals a potential reconfiguration of the political landscape, as the NUP’s growing influence could disrupt the established dominance of the NRM.
In addition to welcoming these new members, the NUP is actively organizing significant events across Uganda to mobilize more supporters. These events aim to engage with citizens, discuss critical issues facing the nation, and invite more people to join the cause for freedom and change. The party is focusing on addressing corruption, improving healthcare, and creating employment opportunities.
One such event recently held in the Greater Masaka Region attracted thousands of attendees, highlighting the NUP’s rising popularity. During the event, Bobi Wine emphasized the importance of unity and collective action to bring about meaningful change in the country. He encouraged participants to take an active role in the political process and work towards a future where all Ugandans can thrive.
The NUP’s efforts are gaining momentum, and with the influx of young leaders, the party is poised to make a substantial impact on Uganda’s political scene. The continued growth of the NUP reflects the desire for a new direction and the commitment of Uganda’s youth to work towards a brighter future.
