After evading authorities for three weeks, police in Kamuli have apprehended Susan Namuganza, 34, who is accused of severing her husband’s genitals. On June 10, Namuganza allegedly used a sharp object to mutilate Moses Kawubanya’s genitals before fleeing the scene.
Busoga North Region Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed Namuganza’s arrest. She was found hiding at her sister’s residence in Namutumba District.
“The suspect was arrested in Buwaga, Bulange Sub-county, Namutumba District, at her sister’s place where she had been hiding,” stated Kasadha. “She is currently detained at Central Police Station Kamuli, charged with attempted murder and robbery.”
Kawubanya, the director of Serena Children’s Home and a resident of Busana Zone, Nabirumba Ward, Nabwigulu Subcounty in Kamuli District, was the victim of the attack. Preliminary investigations reveal that on the morning of June 10, Kawubanya, 45, got up to bathe and then returned to bed with a towel around his waist.
“When their 3-month-old baby started crying, Namuganza woke up. Kawubanya assumed she was getting milk for the baby, but instead, she attacked him, cutting his penis and fleeing with an unknown amount of money,” Kasadha explained.
Kawubanya, in severe pain, sought help from neighbors and was subsequently taken to Kamuli General Hospital for treatment. After three weeks under medical care, he was discharged on July 1.
Kasadha stated that the investigation has been concluded, and Namuganza will be presented in court to face the charges.
