Residents of Buddu County have kicked off celebrations for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 31st coronation anniversary with a cleanliness drive named “Bulungi Bwansi.”
Buddu County Chief Jude Muleke highlighted the initiative’s focus on hygiene and community pride. The launch of the Kabaka’s coronation festivities in Buddu County has united local leaders and schoolchildren in a symbolic act of community service.
Muleke stressed the educational value of the cleanliness drive, stating, “It is heartening to see our children embrace cleanliness and hygiene as integral values.” He also urged headteachers to ensure ongoing cleanliness efforts in schools as part of the coronation celebrations. “Our schools play a vital role in instilling civic responsibility and respect for our cultural heritage,” he added.
Addressing the issue of disrespectful behavior among youth, Muleke emphasized its inconsistency with Buganda customs, urging children to understand and uphold the kingdom’s traditions, including respect for elders. “It is crucial that our children understand and uphold the traditions of our kingdom, which include respect for elders,” he asserted, calling for an end to disrespectful behavior.
Schoolchildren participating in the Bulungi Bwansi initiative shared their enthusiasm for the project and its importance to their communities, expressing hopes for its expansion to neighboring provinces.
In a show of solidarity, chiefs from Mituba 22 in Kitanda, Bukomansimbi District, led by Kalawudiyo Nsubuga, donated over 1,000,000 “Olumuli” towards the completion of the Buddukiro house. Nsubuga emphasized the ceremonial significance of completing the structure in time for the Kabaka’s coronation, stating, “It is our duty as custodians of tradition to ensure the honour and dignity of our kingdom.”
As preparations intensify for the Kabaka’s coronation scheduled for July 31, 2024, the community of Buddu County remains committed to upholding cultural values through acts of service and communal support, reflecting a deep-seated pride in their heritage.
