The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Karamoja region, Simon Peter Aleper, tragically died in a motor accident along the Iganga-Tirinyi Road.
According to sources within NRM, Aleper was en route to attend a meeting of the ruling party’s Central Executive Committee.
The Busoga East Region Police reported that the accident occurred around 1 am at Bukoona along the Iganga-Tirinyi highway. It was a head-on collision involving a Toyota V8 with the registration number UAP 787Q, driven by Aleper, and another vehicle whose details have not yet been confirmed.
Aleper, traveling from the Mbale side, collided with an unidentified vehicle coming from the Iganga direction. The collision caused his car to lose control and veer off the road, resulting in his immediate death.
In the last general elections, Aleper lost to Francis Adome Lorika in the Moroto Municipality.
