Kitagwenda, Uganda – Tadeo Tumwebaze, the officer in charge of Kicheche Health Centre III in Kabujogera Town Council, has been released on police bond as authorities continue investigating allegations of government drug theft.
Tumwebaze was arrested on Wednesday after a tip-off led to suspicions that he was in possession of stolen medical supplies. However, police later determined that there was insufficient evidence to sustain the allegations, leading to his release.
Confirming Tumwebaze’s release, Kitagwenda Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nicholas Nuwagira encouraged the public to remain proactive in the fight against drug theft.
Other Health Officials Still Under Investigation
While Tumwebaze has been freed, two other public officials in Kitagwenda remain under investigation for similar allegations.
- Ronald Mukamasimwe, an assistant inventory management officer at Ntara Health Centre IV
- Julius Businge, a health information assistant at Mahyoro Health Centre III
Both officials have been placed under a six-month interdiction as the State House Health Monitoring Unit (HMU) conducts further inquiries.
Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on the misuse of government resources, stressing that anyone found guilty will face legal consequences.
The ongoing investigations highlight the government’s commitment to transparency and ensuring healthcare resources reach the intended beneficiaries.
