Prof. Badru Kateregga Accuses Wife of Abuse, Eviction in Ongoing Marital Dispute

Kampala, Uganda — April 17, 2025
Kampala University founder, Prof. Badru Kateregga, has gone public with serious allegations against his wife, Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga, accusing her of repeated physical abuse and forceful eviction from his residence in Buziga.

Speaking to journalists, Prof. Kateregga claimed he has endured prolonged domestic violence, stating, “My wife beat me every day until my head changed shape.” Displaying visible head injuries, he alleged these were inflicted over time during their turbulent marriage.

The couple’s dispute has escalated across social media, attracting widespread public concern and sparking heated discussions both online and offline.

Property & Child Neglect Disputes

While Shubaiha denies the abuse allegations, she has counter-accused Prof. Kateregga of failing in his parental responsibilities. In response, the professor refuted these claims, saying, “How can I neglect my children? They study at an international school, and one in Primary Two pays $20,000 in fees.”

Kateregga also voiced frustration over his wife’s alleged attempts to claim property he says he owned before their marriage, including the house in Buziga. “That house was bought in 1993 when I was Uganda’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia,” he explained.

Ownership of Kampala University Contested

Another point of contention is the ownership of Kampala University. Shubaiha reportedly claims co-ownership, which Prof. Kateregga flatly denied. “Kampala University is 26 years old, and she is 35—how could she have started it with me?” he argued.

He expressed confidence in the legal system, stating, “Let’s resolve this in court. Kampala University is not shaken by her claims.”

Police Involvement

The case has caught the attention of Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who has reportedly directed police to intervene in the matter.
