Stanbic Bank and UNICAF Launch Up to 82% Scholarship Program for Ugandan Students
In a bold initiative to enhance educational access and support Uganda’s youth, Stanbic Bank Uganda has partnered with UNICAF, a top pan-African online learning platform, to offer scholarships of up to 82% for eligible learners pursuing internationally recognized degree programs.
This partnership enables Stanbic customers to enroll in Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral, and professional skills courses delivered by UNICAF’s prestigious university partners, including Liverpool John Moores University, University of Suffolk, and the University of East London.
Bridging the Education Gap With Financial Support
Announcing the initiative, Israel Arinaitwe, Head of Personal Banking at Stanbic, highlighted how tuition costs remain a major obstacle for many Ugandan families.
“Through this partnership, we’re removing financial barriers that prevent capable students from advancing academically,” said Arinaitwe. “We’re not just offering scholarships—we’re investing in Uganda’s future.”
The scholarships will cover a wide range of disciplines and are open to students, parents of students, and young professionals who hold Stanbic accounts. This complements the bank’s strategy of offering non-traditional value beyond banking services.
Flexible Learning for a Competitive Future
UNICAF Country Representative Moses Turyagumanawe emphasized the importance of digital learning and financial accessibility in today’s education landscape.
“We exist to democratize access to quality education across Africa,” said Turyagumanawe. “This partnership makes it possible for more Ugandans to earn globally respected degrees from the comfort of their homes.”
In addition to full academic degrees, the program also includes short professional courses in leadership, programming, digital marketing, and essential soft skills. These options are tailored for students from Senior 2 to Senior 6, helping them prepare for the future job market early.
Building a Skilled Workforce for Uganda
Brenda Namanda, Manager for Youth and Family Banking at Stanbic, underscored the long-term national impact.
“Education is the heartbeat of the economy,” Namanda said. “This initiative is about transforming lives. Imagine pursuing a fully accredited master’s degree with over 80% of the cost covered—that’s life-changing.”
This move adds to Stanbic’s existing education-focused efforts such as the National Schools Championship, Graduate Trainee Program, and the Women Elevate Programme. These programs showcase the bank’s ongoing commitment to inclusive and sustainable development in Uganda.https://sunrise.ug/business/corporate/202506/
