The construction of a state-of-the-art Shs19 billion facility for the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) in Jinja has reached 58% completion, according to CRJE East Africa Limited, the contractor responsible for the project.

Enock Yiga, the site engineer from CRJE East Africa Limited, confirmed that work commenced in October of the previous year and is progressing on schedule to meet the project’s deadline. “The entire facility will feature a classroom block, an administration block, and a multipurpose hall equipped with a kitchen and washroom. There will be 17 classrooms, each with a capacity of 30 students, a library accommodating 90 students, and a computer lab also for 90 students,” Yiga explained. The facility will also include 17 offices and two mock hotel rooms for student training.

The construction of this institute, along with the Crested Crane Hotel, is funded by the World Bank under the Competitive Enterprise Development Project (CEDP).

Daniel Kazungu, the spokesperson for UHTTI, emphasized the transformative impact of the new facility in the East African region. “The government of Uganda, in collaboration with the World Bank, is establishing the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute as a center of excellence for hotel and hospitality training. This modernization effort will enable us to train hospitality students more effectively, enhancing Uganda’s dominance in the hospitality industry by improving the skills of our students,” Kazungu stated.

The modernized institute aims to elevate the standards of hospitality education and training, positioning Uganda as a leader in the regional hospitality sector.
