Residents of Byangiri in Nakatoogo Parish, Nabigasa Sub-county, Kyotera District, are in a state of shock and fear after the body of Polofi Tamale, a well-known coffee farmer, was discovered in his coffee estate.
The 57-year-old farmer had been missing since Sunday, prompting a two-day search that concluded with the discovery of his body just a kilometer from his home.
Tamale was a prominent figure in the community, not only as a successful coffee farmer but also as the owner of several rental properties in Byangiri town.
Leonard Ssentongo, the Byangiri village chairman and Tamale’s brother, described the events leading up to the tragic discovery. “We saw him leaving with Bwanika, who had invited him out for a drink,” Ssentongo recounted.
On Saturday, July 6, Tamale left his home with his friend Bwanika to go drinking. According to relatives and friends, Tamale was a habitual drinker and often neglected eating. “Whenever he drank, he wouldn’t eat,” locals said, suggesting that his death might be attributed to overdrinking and poor nutrition.
However, Tamale’s wife, Rose Namata, suspects foul play and has called for a comprehensive investigation. “He had ongoing disputes with certain individuals over the custody of children. I believe this might be connected to his death,” Namata stated.
Twaha Kasirye, the police spokesperson in Masaka, confirmed that an investigation is underway. “We have sent the body to Kalisizo hospital to determine the cause of death,” Kasirye said.
