Museveni Commissions Church Built by Sam Kutesa After Cancer Recovery
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday officiated the opening of All Saints Church in Sembabule District, West Buganda Diocese, a project spearheaded by former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa after surviving throat cancer.
The church, with a seating capacity of 1,200 people, was completed in October 2023 through a partnership between Hon. Kutesa and Tororo Cement Limited. During the ceremony, Museveni praised Kutesa and the Patel family of Tororo Cement for their generosity, emphasizing that true virtue is demonstrated through actions rather than words.
Museveni highlighted how non-Christian partners like the Patel family embraced the spirit of purity, piety, and brotherhood, building churches across Uganda. He urged the congregation to continue fostering unity, hard work, and compassion, reflecting on his own family’s conversion to Christianity and the transformative power of faith.
Representing Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba, Bishop Samuel George Bogere Egesa commended the President for securing peace and stability, allowing religious freedom to flourish. He also acknowledged the government’s efforts in promoting regional harmony, especially following the administrative division of Tororo District.
Hon. Kutesa expressed gratitude to Museveni for presiding over the ceremony and shared that the church was built in honor of his parents’ Christian legacy and as a personal act of thanksgiving after recovering from cancer.
Mawogola North MP, Hon. Shartsi Musherure Kutesa, thanked her parents for their dedication to God’s work and hailed Museveni’s leadership in poverty alleviation programs like the distribution of 100,000 coffee seedlings in Kisozi.
Church leaders, including Rev. Canon Gaster Nsereko and Archdeacon Enock Muhanguzi, applauded Hon. Kutesa and his family for investing in projects that uplift communities.
Mr. Manish Varsani, representing the Patel family, also appreciated the initiative, stating that Sam Kutesa’s focus on building a church and a school demonstrates a legacy of societal transformation over personal gain.
The colorful event was attended by ministers, MPs, clergy, and hundreds of faithful, marking a significant milestone for the people of Sembabule.
